Preserving Migration Stories

The Going and Coming Project is a fantastic resource run by Primary Colours that aims to collect and preserve Migration Stories written by children in Yorkshire and North-East Lincolnshire. The project supports pupils and teachers in many curriculum areas, but especially Citizenship, PSHE, History and Geography. It can help address issues related to identity, diversity, citizenship and community.

This site contains hundreds of stories written by KS2 children from Yorkshire and the Humber. The stories feature text, images, maps and voice interviews describing the journeys made by children and their families. These stories - sometimes humorous, sometimes poignant - address many of the issues familiar today, including asylum seeking, economic migration, poverty and family reunions.

At present the site contains 1185 stories!

As well as the website, there is also a teaching pack that accompanies the project. This is available here while stocks last.

Schools taking part in the project have also received a free performance of "Boat People". This show was specially comissioned for the Going and Coming project and was performed during years 2 to 4. Now that the project is in its 5th and final year you can participate in the project through use of this website, and using the Going and Coming teaching pack
